The second option involves installing Windows on your Mac with the help of Windows virtualization software such as Parallels or Boot Camp Assistant and then downloading the original game from Steam.
Some overly-aggressive anti-virus programs may incorrectly think Cosmoteer is a virus or prevent you from running the installer, merely because its's downloaded so infrequently. Very strange, I'm not sure what's happening since it seems to be working fine for me. You can try downloading and installing manually without using the itch app from If that works for you, then that would indicate it's specifically a problem with the itch app that I can't do anything about, and Itch support might be able to help.
